Harry Kane has sustained ligament damage

Tottenham have confirmed Harry Kane has sustained ligament damage to his right ankle, but say it is not as severe as the same injury the striker had earlier in the season.

Kane was forced to come off early in his side's 6-0 win over Millwall in the FA Cup on Sunday after rolling his ankle under a challenge from Jake Cooper.

The England striker hurt the same ankle against Sunderland in the Premier League in September, which kept him out for 10 games, however, Tottenham are hopeful this injury is not as bad although they did not put a timescale on his recovery.

"We can confirm that Harry Kane sustained ligament damage to his right ankle during Sunday's FA Cup win against Millwall," Spurs posted on Twitter on Tuesday.

"The injury is similar to the one suffered by the forward against Sunderland in September last year, however it is not considered to be as severe.

"Harry will continue to be assessed by our medical staff while he undergoes his rehabilitation at our training centre."

Kane also took to social media to update and thank his followers after the tweets from Tottenham.

Despite spending time on the sidelines after sustaining the injury against Sunderland earlier this season, Kane has scored 24 goals this term and is the Premier League's joint-top scorer alongside Everton forward Romelu Lukaku.
